Tourism studies

Tourism studies are an undergraduate program at university level. It provides a theoretical understanding of tourism and an overview of tourism on a global scale, but also solid knowledge of tourism in Iceland. The study program connects various fields of study, including natural and environmental sciences, planning, business and cultural studies.

The program ends with a BS degree. The duration of study is three years.

Requirements

Admission requirements are a matriculation examination from a secondary school or a comparable study program.

The program is credit-worthy for subsistence and tuition fees at the Student Education Fund (Menntasjóður námsmanna). Trade union education funds often provide scholarships for study. Get more information from your union.

Curriculum

The tourism studies program is theoretical and practical, but a study trip is taken in the third year. Teaching takes place on campus.

All 1st year courses are compulsory, while there are compulsory and elective courses in the other years. There is no formal final assignment (BS), but students work on a large assignment in the third year in connection with a study trip.

After graduation

Upon completion of the study program, it is possible to work as a tourism expert. The BS exam also offers the possibility of postgraduate studies at university level.
