Study

Aquaculture studies have been taught at the Faculty of Aquaculture and Fish Biology at Hólar University, on the one hand a one-year diploma program in aquaculture and on the other hand a research-related master’s program in marine and aquatic biology.

Furthermore, a study program in aquaculture at secondary school level is offered at Verkmenntaskóli Austurlands.

Requirements

Admission requirements are a matriculation examination or a comparable study program.

The program is credit-worthy for subsistence and tuition fees at the Student Education Fund (Menntasjóður námsmanna). Trade union education funds often provide scholarships for study. Get more information from your union.

Curriculum

The program consists of two to four weeks of theoretical and practical courses as well as twelve weeks of apprenticeship either at Hólaskóli or in the teaching and research facility Verið in Sauðárkrókur.

It is possible to take all the courses, one after the other, and complete the studies in one year, or spread them over a longer period of time or attend individual courses and use them for retraining.

After graduation

Upon completion of their studies, students should be able to take on specialized jobs in fish farms and handle the operation of fish farms.
