Massage therapy

Massage therapy studies are work-related and at the secondary school level. This includes enhancing knowledge and skills regarding healthy lifestyles and the body, inflammation and tension in muscles and tissues and how massage can be applied for relaxation and increased well-being.


The average study period is two and a half to three years, including 20 weeks of internship.

Massage therapy studies have been taught at Fjölbrautaskólinn við Ármúla and Framhaldsskólinn á Húsavík.

Requirements

Applicants must have completed compulsory education in accordance with the National Curriculum Guide for Compulsory Schools. For more information, contact the school in question.

The program has been credit-worthy at the Student Education Fund (Menntasjóður námsmanna). Trade unions also often provide scholarships for study. Get more information from your union.

Curriculum

Massage therapy studies are divided into general subjects, general healthcare subjects, specialty subjects and vocational training. General subjects and general healthcare subjects must be completed before starting the specialties of the course.

Check whether the study program or part of it can be taught in distance learning.

After graduation

You can work as a therapetic masseur/masseuse after graduation. It is also possible to complete additional studies for a matriculation examination.
