Seamanship

Seamanship is a work-related study program at the secondary school level. The study program includes, among other things, increasing knowledge and skills in working at sea, maintaining fish processing machines and the characteristics of the fish being worked with. Ergonomics, safety, accident prevention, engine maintenance and ship management are covered, and fish, the sea and seamanship are discussed. It is possible to have skills acquired in the labour market evaluated.

The average duration of study is two years, including two semesters of vocational training.

Requirements

Applicants must have completed compulsory education in accordance with the National Curriculum Guide for Compulsory Schools.

Check whether the study program is credit-worthy at the Student Education Fund. Trade unions often provide scholarships for study. Get more information from your union.

Curriculum

The seamanship study program is divided into general theoretical subjects, the study path specialties and vocational training. Please note that the study program or part of it might be taught via distance learning.

After graduation

The course is preparation for work at sea and further studies at the upper levels of navigation and marine engineering courses and in fishing industry studies.
