Wallpapering and flooring

Wallpapering and flooring is a work-related study program at the secondary school level. The program entails students gaining understanding, knowledge and skills in preparing walls, floors, ceilings, doors and other surfaces indoors and outdoors for laying floor fabrics, panels, carpets and canvases. Wallpapering and flooring is a certified trade.

The average study period is four years, including vocational training, during which the progress of the workplace studies is recorded in an electronic logbook.

Requirements

Applicants must have completed compulsory education in accordance with the National Curriculum Guide for Compulsory Schools, see more on the school’s website.

The program has been credit-worthy for subsistence and other loans at the Student Education Fund (Menntasjóður námsmanna). Trade unions also often provide scholarships for study. Get more information from your union.

Curriculum

The wallpapering and flooring study program is divided into general theoretical subjects, specialties and vocational training.
• The first semester covers joint basic studies in construction engineering and civil engineering.
• The student makes a study agreement with a master in the subject where the internship takes place.

Check whether the study program or part of it can be taught in distance learning.

After graduation

After completing studies and vocational training, it is possible to take a journeyman’s examination that entitles you to work in the field as well as admission to studies for a master craftsman’s exam or construction technology. It is also possible to complete additional studies for a matriculation examination.
