Marine engineering is a work-related study program at the secondary school level. The main goal of the study program is for students to be able to control and maintain the machinery of ships or production companies. In the study program, students acquire skills in the use of all types of mechanical, electrical and control equipment that they work with and knowledge of the laws and regulations that engineers work according to. It is possible to have skills acquired in the labour market evaluated.
Marine engineer is a certified professional title. The duration of study at school is five years, to which is added a journeyman’s examination and sailing time to obtain the full marine engineer license. In addition, students attend courses at the Maritime Safety Training Academy.
