Graphic design is a study program at university level. The course emphasizes skills and knowledge in communicating information through text and images, creative thinking and understanding of the environment and society as well as the dissemination of content and ideas.
The program ends with a BA degree. The duration of study is three years.
Requirements
Admission requirements are a matriculation examination from a secondary school or a comparable study program. Applicants must have received education or experience in arts or design and be able to demonstrate skills and knowledge by submitting a portfolio of works along with an application.
The program is credit-worthy for subsistence and tuition fees at the Student Education Fund (Menntasjóður námsmanna). Trade union education funds often provide scholarships for study. Get more information from your union.
Curriculum
Clothing design studies are both theoretical and practical. Compulsory and elective subjects alternate throughout the three years. The study program is taught locally.
Theoretical courses and workshops each year. Courses, a final thesis and a graduation project in the third year.
Study
Graphic design studies have been taught within the design department of the Iceland Academy of the Arts.
After graduation
Upon completion of the study program, it is possible to work as a clothes designer. The BA exam also offers the possibility of postgraduate studies at university level.
